Monthly Lunch Series: Understanding Culture in Our Children\'s Lives

About This Event

Understanding Culture in Our Children’s Lives will explore cultural preservation and transmission, the values of cultural appreciation, and how diversity, equity, and inclusion is addressed within our community for children. Panelists and youth voices will share insights about the challenges that many children face living in our current society and how our community can help young people embrace their culture and identity. \ \ Proceeds from this event will help fund the Positive School Discipline Institute, a nine-month training initiative for local educators on culturally-responsive, trauma-informed practices in schools; and support other advocacy programs that help prevent the criminalization of children.\ \ One $35 ticket gives an individual access to all four presentations. Zoom links for each presentation will be e-mailed to registrants 24 hours, as well as 1 hour, in advance.\ \ Ticket purchasers can earn Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for all 4 presentations for an additional charge of $15.\ Presentation Schedule\ \ The Asian/Pacific American Youth Experience - October 19: Panel Member - David Suzuki, Director, Equity Institution on Race, Cultural & Transformative Action, IUPUI\ \ The Burmese Youth Experience - November 16: Panel Members - KJack William, Parent Liaison Perry Township Schools; Duh Tial, Former Student, Perry Township Schools\ \ The African American Youth Experience - December 14: Panel Member - Jill English, Education Advocate at United Way of Central Indiana\ \ The Hispanic/Latino Youth Experience - January 11: Panel Member - Gloria King, Director of Eskenazi Health Multicultural Affairs
